Professor Stephen C. Jacobson
Professor Jacobson's research is into the creation of micromachining techniques to build miniature platforms, (i.e., lab-on-a-chip technologies), to conduct chemical and biological experiments. On these platforms, fluids can be precisely manipulated in the nanoliter (10-9 L) to attoliter (10-18 L) range by controlling the applied force, geometry of the structure, and properties of the materials.
In addition to the significant evidence that CALM is effective, students also perceive that CALM aids them in learning the material. Midway through the first semester of CALM's use, we also collected student opinions about their experience with CALM (297 respondents). Of all the students taking the survey, 73% described CALM as either “extremely” or “very useful” in helping them learn the material presented in the course; only 8% felt was only “slightly useful” or “not useful at all”.
